How do we Protect Ourselves?

How does one protect yourself from an unseen adversary? How can you stop something you can’t see? Well Ephesians 6:13-18 has the answer.

Because our foe is unseen with the human eyes, this is what we must do according to Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, “Our fight is not against people on earth but against the rulers and authorities and the powers of this world’s darkness, against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly world. That is why you need to put on God’s full armor. Then on the day of evil you will be able to stand strong. And when you have finished the whole fight, you will still be standing. So stand strong, with the belt of truth tied around your waist and the protection of right living on your chest. On your feet wear the Good News of peace to help you stand strong. And also use the shield of faith with which you can stop all the burning arrows of the Evil One. Accept God’s salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times with all kinds of prayers, asking for everything you need. To do this you must always be ready and never give up. Always pray for all God’s people.”  Following these steps should be easy but we tend to allow our feelings to dictate what we should and should not do.  What we need and not need.  What we want and not want.  Our first battle starts in our minds and if we can win that battle, we have victory.  But many times we allow our thoughts to reach our hearts and we always act on what the heart says.  What we think is how we feel and what we feel is how we will react.

The only chance you will have of ever winning your mental battles is to constantly renew your mind.  Romans 12:2 says,”Do not be shaped by this world; instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect.”

Our battles are continuous until Christ comes for His beloved church (bride).  The good news is that we have already been given the victory.
